Kudo
Hayashi-ha
Maroochydore's traditional Japanese karate dojo — direct lineage to All-Japan Hayashi-ha Karatedo and an officially affiliated member of the Kudo International Federation.
Five programs, one philosophy. Our traditional Karate suits everyone — first-timers welcome, go at your own pace. For those chasing the extreme, full-contact Kudo sits at the other end. Every class at our Maroochydore dojo is rooted in traditional Hayashi-ha Karatedo.

A playful, structured introduction to karate. Coordination, balance, listening skills and confidence — preparing little ones for school and life.

Authentic Japanese karate combined with modern teaching for children. Discipline, respect and real self-defence skills they carry into school and home.

A powerful alternative to screen time. Teens build confidence, resilience, fitness and friendships through traditional karate training.

Train as karate has been practised for generations. Traditional technique, practical self-defence and serious fitness — within a respectful dojo culture.
Kudo is genuine full-contact — karate striking combined with throwing and grappling from Judo and Jiu-jitsu, trained with real intensity. It's demanding and physical, made for those chasing a serious martial art. The only Kudo dojo on the Sunshine Coast.
For experienced martial artists — not a beginners' class. New to martial arts? Watch the preview, then start with our traditional Karate and progress at your own pace, or have a chat with us first.
Every class — from preschool through to Kudo — is built on the same foundation. This is what makes Karate Academy of Power different from a gym, a fitness class, or a martial arts “club”.

Practical technique grounded in tradition. What we teach actually works — taught with respect for safety, age and ability.

Direct line to All-Japan Hayashi-ha Karatedo. Sensei Luke trains under Shihan Denis Purvis, a direct student of Soke Hayashi

Confidence, discipline, humility, perseverance. Skills students carry into school, work and home — long after they leave the mat.

Not a gym. A sanctuary. Small class sizes, undivided attention, and a community built on respect and friendship.
Our dojo proudly traces its lineage to All-Japan Hayashi-ha Karatedo, a traditional Japanese karate organisation founded by Soke Teruo Hayashi — one of the most respected masters of modern karate.
Hayashi Sensei trained under Kosei Kuniba, a direct student of Kenwa Mabuni — the founder of Shito-ryu Karate. In 1970 he formally established Hayashi-ha Shito-ryu Karate-do, bringing together deep technical knowledge, classical kata and powerful fighting principles into a complete system.
In Australia, our tradition has been preserved by Shihan Denis Purvis, a direct student of Soke Hayashi. Who continues to mentor and teach Sensei Luke along with the modern masters of Hayashi-ha Japan today.
Luke is great with my young bloke and kids in general. My young bloke can’t wait to go to class! For the adults, this is old school real Karate — not another ‘McDojo’.
I’ve done karate at other clubs before but this place is hands down the best club. Fantastic learning environment and a wonderful community.
Great instructor and teacher, with a high level of skills, very patient and understanding.
True and authentic — this is a great Karate academy for all ages. Sensei Luke is an extremely passionate and talented leader. My kids love it here!
Karate academy has been the best decision for my son’s confidence and growth. He only started training 9 months ago and he has learnt so much and absolutely loves it.
Monday to Thursday in Maroochydore, with Saturdays kept for gradings and special events. The evening Kudo classes are genuine full contact — for experienced martial artists, not beginners.

Quite the opposite. Our students become more confident standing up to bullies, and develop more humility and kindness toward others through their training. Real martial arts teaches restraint, not aggression.
We understand parents want to watch — especially with younger children. But our experience shows students learn much better when the class is just instructor and students. Without that distraction, kids concentrate, follow instructions, and build confidence and independence faster. Parents have dedicated viewing classes and end-of-term demonstrations to see progress.
Not at all. Students start at every fitness level. You’ll find you get fit by training — and isn’t that the point? A workout that gets results, taught in a way you’ll actually look forward to.
The journey to black belt is individual — everyone progresses at their own pace, with no judgement. What we can tell you is that the perseverance, commitment and self-discipline you build along the way will serve you for life. Your instructors are dedicated to helping you reach black belt or whatever your personal goal may be.
Not at all. Many adult students described themselves exactly that way before starting — and you’d never know it now. Give yourself some time and you’ll be astounded at how much you improve. Our instructors keep teaching simple so even the most uncoordinated person develops sharp skills.
Comfortable clothes you can move in (skip the skirt — kicks!), and a water bottle. We’ll have a gi available for you to try on if you’d like to feel the full experience. Most students leave their first class grinning ear-to-ear.
